Software piracy is a serious issue for the software industry. According to some analysts, one out of every three copies of the software installed on computers worldwide was pirated in 2004. Revenue lost to software piracy during this period is estimated at $33 billion worldwide.
Software piracy certainly impacts our business, but our customers are the ultimate victims. Pirating software is stealing, and it is illegal. If revenues are lost due to piracy, less resources can be allocated to research and development of new products and solutions.
What is Piracy?
For computer software, the term "piracy" refers to copying, selling, distributing, or using software that hasn't been properly licensed — or paid for.
