Quest One Quick Connect for Exchange Resource Forests

Identity & Access Synchronization for the Enterprise

Quest One Quick Connect for Exchange Resource Forests integrates identities with Quest One (ActiveRoles Server, Quest One Identity Manager or Password Manager), Active Directory-based or enterprise solutions to synchronize and provision accounts between a user account forest and the Exchange resource forest. Additionally, Exchange properties are projected from the resource forest onto the property pages of users in the user forest for single point user account management.

Quest One Quick Connect for Exchange Resource Forests connects to Exchange resource forests to provision mailboxes in the Exchange forest upon creation of user accounts in account forests. Mailbox provisioning for existing accounts is also supported.

  • IdentitySync - Synchronizes identities (typically user accounts) to other systems, enabling an Active Directory user to logon to non-Active Directory applications or data sources. Quick Connect uses a set of wizards to configure synchronization profiles. Unlike other synchronization solutions, Quick Connect requires no programming.
  • PasswordSync - Sets initial passwords during provisioning. Password changes in Active Directory are synchronized with connected systems, enabling universal password resets through integration with Quest Password Manager.
  • AutoMapping - Automatically reconciles associated objects (users, groups, etc.) between source and target systems, including auto-creation where no object exists, rule correlation and manual mapping for exceptions.
  • ErrorControl - Reduces the impact of synchronization errors by providing thresholds and stop conditions that determine if and when synchronization should halt due to errors.
  • Codeless Transformation - Converts object types during synchronization so that the source and target objects can be different object types.
  • GroupSync - Synchronizes authorization objects (typically groups) between directories in AD, integrated applications or data sources. Extends your enterprise-wide investment in centralized group management.

This solution runs on top of ActiveRoles Server, and requires the following to be deployed in your Active Directory environment prior to installing the solution:

  • ActiveRoles Server 6.5.0 or 6.7.0, including the Administration Service and ActiveRoles Server console.
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 or later in the resource forest.
  • Outgoing trusts from the resource forest to the account forests, so that users in domains of an account forest can authenticate in the resource forest.

Note that in addition to the main requirements for ActiveRoles Server, which can be found in the Release Notes document for ActiveRoles Server, the following requirements must be met in order for this solution to install and work:

  • Domains of both the resource forest and account forests must be registered with ActiveRoles Server as managed domains.
  • Installation must be performed on a computer running the ActiveRoles Server Administration Service. The Setup program requires that the Administration Service be up and running to make all the necessary changes to the configuration of ActiveRoles Server.

For more information and instructions, see "Deploying the Solution" in the ActiveRoles Quick Connect for Exchange Resource Forests Administrator Guide.
